Once King Ambhrish decided to perform Lord Krishna's beloved "Ekadashi fast". The eleventh day of the Hindu calendar is considered Ekadashi. The Ekadashi date falls twice a month. This divine fast starts with "Utpanna Ekadashi" of the waning phase of the moon of the month of Margshirsha and is compleated on the "Devouthan Ekadashi" of the waxing phase of the moon of the month of Kartik. He completed that fast with utmost reverence.

At the end of the fast, he remained hungry for three-days in the month of Kartik. Thereafter, in the morning he took bath in the river Yamuna and got a vision of the idol of Lord Vishnu in Madhuban. At the end, he prepared to complete the vow by obeying Brahmins.

Arrival Of Sage Durvasa

Coincidently, at the same time, the angriest Sage Durvasa entered the ashram with his disciples as a guest. Watching Sage Durvasa the king Ambhrish stood up and he worshipped him in many ways. He invited Sage Durvasa to have lunch. Sage Durvasa accepted to have lunch after bath. Then he went to the bank of the river Yamuna .

After some time,  Sage Durvasa again came in the ashram with his disciples. He became extremely angry at Ambhrish for drinking water before serving him. He used very harsh sentences. King Ambhrish kept on praying for forgiveness.
