Sacrifices Of Sage Dadiche And Slaughter Of Vritasura

India is the birthplace of Sages and Hermits. Many divine personalities have been born on this Earth and blessed this land by their divine stages. In the holy Mythology epics Srimad  Bhagwat and Shiva Purana, A story is described of a great Sage Dadichi, who donated his body to Lord Indra for the welfare of humanity and freed all the Deities from the fear of terrible Demon Vritasura.

Renunciation of Indra By Guru Vrahaspati

Once Guru Vrahaspati went to meet Lord Indra in his court. At that time, Indra and other Deities were so immersed in the songs of Gandharvas and the dance of the apsaras that they did not pay any attention to Guru Vrahaspati. At that time, neither any Deity bowed down nor gave proper respect to him.

Guru Vrahaspati felt very humiliated by seeing the attitude of the Deities and he abandoned the court at once. When Indra realised his blunder, he was extremely repentant. Indra thought he would apologise to Guru Vrahaspati for his blunder.

Attack On The Heaven

The Demons were very happy of Guru Vrahaspati not being in heaven. They invaded heaven by the command of their Guru Shukracharya. Due to lack of guidance from the Guru, the Deities were not able to stand in the war before the Devils and were soon defeated. The Devils had been empowered in heaven.

The desperate and loser Deities went in the shelter of Lord Brahma. They praised Lord Brahma in many manners. Lord Brahma spoke, Indra you have made a great mistake by insulting a worthy Guru like Vrahaspati. As a result of that mistake, this situation has arisen before you.

But Guru Vrahaspati has been intermediated and he will come to you at his own will. So you go in the shelter of Sage Vishvaroopa, the Son of great Sage Twastha and urge him to become your Guru. He will solve your problem.

Indra Urged Vishvaroopa To become his Guru

Lord Indra and all other Deities went in the shelter of Vishvaroopa. Sage Vishvaroopa was a high-quality seeker. He had three heads. He was absorbed in austerity all the time. Vishvaroopa was equally popular between  Demons and Deities. The Gods praised him in many ways and urged him to become their Guru. At the insistence of the Gods and knowing the destiny effectively, he accepted the proposal of Deities.

Guru Vishvaroopa again got Indra the authority over heaven. He introduced Vaishnavi Vidya to Indra. Vaishnavi Vidya is also known as Narayan kavach. Vishvaroopa had gained Narayan kavach by harsh austerity. Lord Indra received Narayan kavach by absorbing himself in Lord Narayan. Lord Indra defeated the Devils and again empowered heaven from the energy derived from Narayan Kavach.

Slaughter Of Vishvaroopa By Indra

Even after acquiring the right to heaven, Lord Indra did not have faith in Vishvaroopa. The mother of Sage Vishvaroopa belongs to Asur clan. So whenever he used to perform Yagya, he used to give offerings to Devils from one of his mouths along with the offerings of the Deities.

Enraged with Vishvaroopa, Lord Indra cut off all three of his heads. The killing of Vishvaroopa led Indra to commit the sin of killing a Brahmin.

Lord Indra suffered the sin for one year. Thereafter, He divided the sin into four parts and paid a part to the Earth, one part to the Trees, one part to Water, and one part to Women.

Generate A Fierce Monster From Yagya

Twastha was very angry at Indra with the slaughter of his Son Vishvaroopa. He performed a sacrificial fire to slaughter Indra and originated a fierce monster from that sacrificial fire. That monster was very powerful. All the Deities fled from heaven for fear of him.

The Sin Of Brahmin Murder On Lord Indra

Being born in a sacrificial fire by a Brahmin Twastha, his Son Vritasura was a Brahmin. The slaughter of Vritrasura led to the sin of killing another Brahmin on Indra. Lord Indra was extremely restless due to the sin of killing Brahmin. His mind was always full of fear and apprehension of unwelcomed events all the time.

After the slaughter of Vritasura, Lord Indra became so frustrated that he hid in the divine Mansarovar lake. He remained hidden in that lake for many years.

Goddess Lakshmi helped Lord Indra to liberate from this sin. Lord Shiva nullified his sin. Thereafter, the Brahmins of heaven made a sacrificial fire named "Ashvmeg Yagya" for Lord Indra. With the virtuous effect of that sacrificial fire, the fear of Indra was abolished and all his sins were eliminated.
