Narkasur and protected the entire world.
Introduction to Narkasur
When Demon Hiranyaksha removed the Earth from its axis and sunk it into the water, at that time, Lord Vishnu had incarnated as Lord Varrah and re-established the Earth on its axis.

By the combination of raising and establishing the Earth, a Son of the Earth was born. Being the Son of the land, he was named
Bhomasur.
He lived inside the land and there he was in the contact with the Devils, so he considered the Gods and humans as his enemies. he had got a completely devilish tendency. His name had become Narkasura because of the reprehensible work against men and the Gods.
Narkasur made the penance of the supreme father Lord Brahma for immortality, but on the refusal of Lord Brahma, he asked that his mother be helpful in his death. He had become so drastic after getting boon from Lord Brahma.
Furious Behaviour Of Narkasur
The courage of Narkasur was so much increased that he went to heaven and robbed the earrings of goddess Aditi and also looted the umbrella of Lord Varun. He had captured the famous Mountain Mani of heaven. He looted a lot of wealth of heaven and the Earth and hid it in his palace.
He invaded heaven many times and kidnapped many beautiful girls of heaven. He also made it difficult for the inhabitants of the Earth to live. He had also kidnapped so many girls of Sages. Thus he kidnapped 16, 100 girls and kept them in his palace.

Narkasur built a palace on Mountain mani for the stay of those girls. It was called Alkapur. The palace was protected by a great monster called Muru, who had 10 Sons. Narkasur had also appointed three other Demons Haygrev, Nisananda, and Panchnad as gatekeepers, to protect Alkapur and his capital Pragjyotishpur. All of them were great mighty Monsters. All of them used to scare the pious souls who were going to heaven.
In The Shelter Of Lord Krishna
Lord Indra and all the Deities were very hurt by the atrocities of Narkasur. Lord Indra took his principal Gods and went to the shelter of Lord Krishna. At that time, Lord Krishna was sitting in his Dashahi Rajya Sabha. He met very lovingly With him. Indra narrated the entire account of the atrocities of Narkasur. Then Lord Krishna sympathized and assured him and said, he would soon slaughter Narkasur.

Departure To Pragjyotishpur
Lord Krishna recalled Garuda and as soon as he remembered him, The Son of Vinta appeared there. Then Krishna departed to Pragjyotishpur with his queen Satyabhama. The Earth was incarnated as Satyabhama, so Satyabhama was the mother of Narkasur in her previous birth.

Slaughter of Demon Muru
When Lord Krishna reached Pragjyotishpur, he saw that a very large army was protecting that place. When Lord Krishna pulled and left the thread of his bow Shargham, All the Demons began to tremble with the voice of his bow.
Demon Muru turned his eyes with anger to fight with Lord Krishna. He hit Krishna with terrible weapons, but Lord Krishna destroyed all that weapons on the way. Soon Lord Krishna slaughtered Muru and his helper Demons.
War Between Lord Krishna And The Devils
After the demise of Muru, Nisund came to war with Krishna. Lord Krishna caused great damage to his army with his Parjanya weapon. Then, Krishna wielded a weapon called Savitri and also slaughtered Nisund.

After the death of Nisund, the mighty Demon Haygrev came to war. He threw a huge rock over Krishna, but Krishna made seven pieces of that rock with his weapon Parjanya. After a very fierce war, Lord Krishna also massacred the Demon Haygrev.
After the slaughter of all the mighty warriors, Lord Krishna entered Pragjyotipur. He played his Conch, Paanchjanya. Its sound was terrible for the Demons.
Slaughter Of Narkasur
Demon Narkasur sat in his iron chariot and came to war with Lord Krishna. There were 1000 horses in his chariot. He attacked Krishna with his entire army, but soon Lord Krishna slaughtered all his army.

Krishna from the
Parjanya weapon. There was a fierce war started between
Narkasur and Lord
Krishna. When Lord
Krishna seemed unable to slaughter
Narkasur, goddess

Narkasur's body was divided into two halves and fell to the ground.

After the slaughter of Narkasur, all the Deities were very happy. The Gods rained flowers from the Sky. At the same time, the goddess Earth appeared with earrings of Devi Aditi and the umbrella of Lord Varun. Goddess Earth praised Lord Krishna in many ways.
Releasing 16100 Girls
Thereafter, Lord Krishna went to Alkapur where Narkasur had kept all the 16,100 girls. Krishna freed all the girls. All the girls were very happy after getting a divine vision of Krishna. Then Krishna told all the girls to go to their houses.

All of them said, that now they would no longer be accepted by society. Then a girl named Rohini dilated, that Sage Narad had said, that when Lord Krishna would slaughter Narkasur, he would free all the girls and marry with them.
Hearing the entreaty of all the 16,100 girls, Krishna took all of them to Dwarka and married them all. Thus, Lord Krishna had 16, 108 wives.

The day on which Lord Krishna slaughtered Narkasur and freed 16,100 girls, is celebrated as Nark Chaturdashi. This day is celebrated on the waning phase of Moon of the month of Kartik. Since, On this day Lord Krishna had married 16100 girls so this day is also known as Roop Chaudas. This day is celebrated one day before Deepawali.
