Lord Sun

Lord Sun is the direct deity of this world. He has illuminated the whole world with his energy. In the Puranas, Sun and  Moon are described as God's eye. The Sun has been praised in many ways in Purans and it is called the soul of creation. He rides on the chariot of his seven horses and rises from the east and sets in the west by lighting the whole World.

There are seven horses in the chariot of the Sun. All these seven horses are of different colors. They are also called the luminous rays of the Sun. It is recognized that these seven horses represent different days of the week. Their names are Gayatri, Branti, Ushnik, Jagti, Tristap, Anustap, and Pankti

Arundev is a charioteer of Lord Sun. There is only a single wheel in the chariot of the Sun and it has 12 lines that represent 12 months of the year.
  
Sun has got the highest place in Astrology. All the planets revolve around him and get energy from him. The Sun is the king of all the planets. According to astrological analyses,  The Sun stays in one zodiac for a month and locates in Capricorn on Makar Sankranti by visiting all the 12 zodiac signs in a year.

When the Sun goes in Capricorn from Pisces, it is called the Uttrayan period. In the Uttarayan period, the days are longer and the nights are smaller and weather gets warmer. When the Sun enters Cancer, it is called the Dakshinayan period. In the Dakshinayan period, the days are smaller and the nights are longer and weather gets colder. From 14th January to 21st June, there is a time of Uttrayan and from 22nd June to 13th January is the time of Dakshinayan.

At the time of the genesis of the birth creation, a lotus had emerged from the navel of Lord Vishnu, and Lord Bramha had appeared from that lotus. Darkness was rife around at that time. Brahma, pronounced the word Om, which revealed a mass of light at that time. The darkness of the whole world was removed from that light. The same light mass is considered to be the basic form of Lord Sun.

When Lord Brahma started creating creation, he generated Sage Marich and Sage Kashyap was born from Marich. Kashyap was married to 13 girls, of Prajapati Daksh. Aditi was the eldest among those girls. Sage  Kashyap had a special affection for Devi  Aditi

Austerity Of Lord Sun By Sage Kashyap And Devi Aditi

In ancient times, there was once a war between the Deities and the Devils in which the Deities were defeated. At that time, Devils had dominated the kingdom of heaven. Then Sage Narad went to Devi Aditi and said, that you should do the penance of Lord Sun for the right of Deities and get a boon that he should take birth as your Son.

Goddess Aditi and Sage Kashyap made the harsh penance of Lord Sun which delighted Lord Sun. He appeared and asked for a boon. Sage Kashyap requested him to take birth as their son and help Indra to get his right.

Lord Sun went, on giving them a blessing. In time, Lord Sun was born from the womb of Devi Aditi. A wave of excitement and enthusiasm ran all around in nature by the birth of Lord Sun.   

Thereafter, Sun defeated the Devils and gave Indra his right. Tridev considered him to be the king of planets. Then the Sun located in the Sun Folk of the Sun Division and began to lighten the world. Sun followed his duty with great sincerity, In order to run the world cycle, Lord Brahma required more people like him. 

The Legend Of Sun's Marriage 

Lord Brahma sent Sage Narad to Vishwakarma. He is the great artisan of Deities. In those days Vishvakarma was also looking groom for his daughter Sangya. Sage Narad went to Vishvakarma and spoke,  Lord Brahma has settled the relationship between Sun and Sangya. But it is not so easy to make Lord Sun as their son in law.  Sage Narad advised Vishvakarma and his wife to do the penance of Lord Sun

Vishvakarma and his wife did hard penance to delight Sun. Lord Sun appeared and asked for a boon. The couple prayed the Sun of being the husband of their daughter Sangya. Lord Sun agreed but he said them to talk his father sage Kashyap and goddess Aditi on this matter. 

Sage Kashyap and Devi Aditi gladly accepted the wedding invitation. In the presence of Tridev, Sun married to goddess Sangya. The goddess Sangya was very gentle so she was always frightened by the heat of the Sun. The organs of the goddess Sangya were scorched by the heat of the Sun. But still, she was living with Sun contrary to her will.

The Story Of The Birth Of Sons and Daughters Of Lord Sun

The goddess Sangya procreate a Son of Lord Sun. He was named Vivaswan. He is called the manu of this seventh manner. Thereafter, two twin children, Yum and Yami were born. 

By the command of  Lord Brahma, Yamdev became the deity of death, and the goddess Yami became a river by the name of Yamuna and started flowing on the Earth. This River originates in Yamnotri at the Himalayas in  Uttrakhand and makes a confluence with river Ganga at Pryagraj.

Devi Sangya Reveals The Chhaya

Goddess Sangya was very distracted by the temperature of the Sun. So she created a goddess from her shadow and gave her name Chhaya. By allowing Chhaya to live with the Sun, goddess Sangya went from there to his father Vishvakarma. Vishvakarma advised his daughter that she should go to her husband's house but she refused to go. 

Goddess Sangya went to the lush green plains of the north and began to worship Lord Sun in the form of a mare. At that time, she lived only by eating grass and leaves.

Birth Of The Son Of Chhaya

Goddess Chhaya was spending a happy time with Sun in Sun Folk. Chhaya gave birth to a Son of Sun. He was named Savarni Manu. Savarni Manu is still doing penance in the  Himalayas. He will take over as Manu in the next Manvantar.

Birth Of Lord Shani

For the welfare of the world, Goddess Chhaya gave birth to another Son Shani. Lord Shani did the harsh penance of Lord Shiva and become the planet Saturn. He is worshipped in all the folks. Lord Shani became the God of justice at the Earth.

Birth Of The Daughter's Of Devi Chhaya

Goddess Chhaya also gave birth to a daughter. She was named Tapti. Goddess Tapti became a river and began to flow on the Earth. The river originates from a place called Multai in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh and falls in the Arabian sea. This river has seven famous pools (kund). A festival is organized here in the month of Karthik

The second daughter of goddess Chhaya is Vrusti also known as Bhadra. She was very aggressive by nature. Lord Brahma set her at Nakshatra folk to control her nature. She had also got a position in Vristikaran. It is the part of the Indian calendar of calculation of time. 

Goddess Chhaya was more affectionate with her children than the children of goddess Sangya. Once Lord Sun became angry at Devi Chhaya. So when he shouted at goddess Chhaya, She narrated the story to him. She told to Sun, "Goddess Sangya had created her from her own shadow." After saying this,  goddess Chhaya went from there and faded in goddess Sangya

Controlling The Heat Of Sun 

Lord Sun became very angry and went to his father-in-law Vishvakarma. He wanted to consume Vishvakarma with his intensely heat. Vishvakarma had great respect for Sun. He said that if you allow, I can control your intense heat with my knowledge.

With the command of Sun, Vishwakarma divided his intense heat into 12 parts, which appeared to be 12 Adityas. These are, Data, Aryama, Mitra,Varuna, Ansh, Bhag,  Indra, Vivaswan, Pusha, Parjanya, Tavashta, and the twelfth Vishnu, who is the best in qualities even though he is the youngest to appear in the end.

Earlier Lord Sun was called Vibhavasu. But because of his sharp division by artist  Vishvakarma, the Sun got the ultimate form.

Reunion Of Lord Sun And Devi Sangya

Thereafter, Lord Sun went from there to find goddess Sangya. He found Devi Sangya worshipping him in the lush green plains of the north in form of a mare. He took the form of a horse and then stayed with her. In the same form, goddess Sangya gave birth to two twin Sons of the Sun. They were named Ashwani Kumar. Ashwani Kumar is called the physician of the Deities.

Goddess Sangya was very happy as the intense heat of Lord Sun was now controlled and she went to the Sun Folk with him. In Sun Folk, Sangya gave birth to one more child of Sun called Remantak. Romantak lives with Sun and illuminates the whole World along with him.
