Lord Vishnu has taken many incarnations to save the world. In ancient times for the welfare of the world, Lord Vishnu had incarnated as King Pruthu.
According to the Purans, it is extremely fruitful and worthy to read and listen to his character. All kinds of sins of a person, who listens to his story with utmost devotion, are vanished.

In ancient times, A Prajapati was born in the lineage of Maharishi Attri, whose name was Angh. He was as influential as the Atri. He had a Son named Ben. The name of Ben's mother was Sunithi, who was the daughter of the Kaal. Ben did not know the mystery of dharma, he was trapped in greed and lust. The Son of the Angh and the Sunithi always walked on the path of iniquity.
Tyrannical King Ben
Ben was very powerful. After becoming king he gave a lot of distress to his public. He had imposed a lot of taxes on the public and he exploited all the people very much. King Ben had also stopped the rituals and Yagya in his kingdom. He had declared in his people that he is adorable of Yagya and he is the Power of the Yagya All the people should do Yagya for him.

The Gods were enraged by seeing his infinite work. Sage Marichi and other big sages explained to him that he should not do these work and follow the path of Dharma.
But Ben, who was immersed in the force, asked the Sages who on this Earth could stand before him. He spoke, I am the form of dharma, So I should be worshipped. All the Sages became very angry by listening to Ben and they made Ben inanimate with their yoga power.
In anger, the Sages started churning Ben's right thigh, and his thigh turned out to be an extremely black and fat young man who was very scared. Maharishi Attri sent him into the jungle. He became the ancestor of the Nishads.
As Nishaad appeared, The whole sin was removed from the body of Ben. Then,the Sages began to churn the right hand of Ben. This time Lord Pruthu appeared from his hand. He was as glowing as fire.
Appearance Of Lord Pruthu
Pruthu had appeared with the divine armor, arrow and the bow. His bow was named Aajgav. All the Deities were very happy with the birth of Lord Pruthu. All the Deities came to see him. There was a wave of happiness in all the people. Lord Brahma along with other Sages came to see Pruthu. Lord Brahma made the coronation of Lord Pruthu at the same time.

All the Deities and the people were very happy with Pruthu for becoming the creator of the world. He was very kind and visionary king. He respected people very much. His kingdom was upon the seven islands of the Earth.
The Emperor Gave The Charge Of The World To The Worthy People
Lord Pruthu distributed all the departments of the world among different and abled people. He also established four Dikpals in the east-west -north and south directions. All the Sages were very happy to see this work of the Pruthu. They told all the people that this Prajapati would be the one who would give you livelihood.
Once, some of the people came to him and began to ask for a way to run the livelihood of all the people. They said, that all the people eat the tubers and the devourable food. whatever seeds they sow on the Earth, the Earth does not give proper results. The Earth is not even fit to live because it is high and low in many places.

Listening to the people, Pruthu was filled with anger, he called the Earth and decided to kill it with his divine arrow. Seeing this, Earth came to the shelter of Lord Pruthu and requested him not to kill her.
The Earth said, that she is famous in this world by the name Medni because of the slaughter of the Demon named Madhu by Lord Vishnu. Owing to the bone and maida (means fat) of Madhu's body is spread over the place in this Medini so it is high and low from many places and does not give any result even when the seeds are sown. As the Demon was so huge so the parts of his body and fat are scattered in different places on the Earth. So please forgive me and do not kill me.

By sowing the seeds on the land and by making it fertile and flat, it will give proper crops. King Pruthu became delighted to hear the solution from the Earth. He accepted the Earth as his daughter. Being the daughter of Lord Pruthu the Medini is called Prithvi.
Advent of Agriculture For The People
Prajapati Pruthu took several resources to flatten the Earth and invented many new seeds with the help of Gods and from Yagyas. Now the people began to settle in different areas as of the leveling of the Earth. The life of all the people was now based on agriculture except hunting.
Prithu organized rivers in such a way that it could irrigate farms and reach up to the Ocean. He cut off the mountains with his divine bonds and made them small and big. Prajapati Pruthu performed many Yagya to make the Earth fertile. He also performed the sacrificial Yagya of the Sun and the Moon so that the vegetation could be properly nourished.
He also performed the Yagya of Lord Brahma to run the work of the World smoothly, Sage Soot and Sage Madhav had appeared from the same Mahayagya. Philosopher Soot and Madhav praised king Pruthu in many ways so the king became happy and offered Anoop country to Soot and Magadha to Madhav.
Milking The Earth As Cow
The Earth was considered as a Cow and the Manu was made a Calf. Then, The Earth was milched in many ways by King Pruthu. Means, Lord Pruthu had sown a variety of seeds and had grown grains. After King Pruthu, Deities, Gandharva, and the Demons also sow seeds on Earth and got their intended results.

Prajapati Pruthu moved to his special Dham Shir Sagar by creating a proper system of living on Earth for mankind by giving many blessings to the Earth.
The Puranas say that the man who listens and meditates on the character of Lord Pruthu lives happily on the Earth for a long time.
