Lord Krishna - Mahadev war & Banasur

There is a time in a man's life when he has to go against his mind to perform his duties. A similar theme happened in the last chapter of Mahabharata, (Harivansh Purana) when Mahadev stood in front of Lord Krishna to save the life of his devotee, Banasur.

Austerity Of Lord Shiva By Banasur

The great-mighty Banasur was the great son of king Bali (who had donated three steps earth to Lord Vamana). He was the eldest son among his hundred brothers. He was a tremendous warrior born with thousands of arms.

Once Banasur saw the divine body of Lord Kartikeya, he was very inspired by him. At that time, he felt in his mind to perform the vicious penance of Lord Shiva. The purpose of his penance was that Lord Shiva accepts him as his son.

Lord karthikeya

Lord Shiva pleased with his penance and appeared in front of him. He asked Demon Banasur to get a boon. Banasur replied I wish that you and Goddess Parvati accept me as your Son.

Lord Shiva replied, "I accept you as my Son. You will always get the protection of us. Then Lord Kartikeya gifted him a stunning flag like fire and a Peacock vehicle.

With blessings from Lord Shiva, The powerful  Demon settled the city of Shonitpur. He settled the divine flag at Shonitpur and became very daring and wished for war with everyone. He defeated The Gods, The yaksha, and The Gandharvas many times in the war. Because of the patronage of Lord shiva, the deities began to be scared of him.

Arrogance Of Banasur ЁЯС╣

Once Banasur was shattered in the head of the force and went to Mount Kailash to Lord Shiva  and said, "My mind is always absorbed in the war and I have defeated the Gods many times, so I wish for a powerful enemy who could stay in the war before me."

Then, Mahadev laughed and said, "You will receive such an incredible and great war soon when the spiritual flag given by Karthikeya is broken down."

After hearing such sentences from Lord Shiva and hailing him with his thousand arms,  Banasur went to his kingdom Shonitpur happily.

When Demon Banasur returned to Shonitpur and told about the future war to his general Kumbhbhand, He got worried; he had realized that the time has come for the downfall of Banasur. Kumbhbhand tried to convince Banasur, but he did not listen to him.

Usha and Anirudh

Banasur had an extremely beautiful daughter named Usha. Once, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati departed to river Ganga with their followers.

Princess Usha also joined them with her friends. She became very happy to see them. They all were enjoying the river. Watching them playing, Usha was wishing for her future mate in her mind there.

Goddess Parvati read Usha's mind. She informed to Usha, "The man who would appear to the twelfth of the upcoming Vesak month in your dream would be your husband in the future."

After coming from river Ganga, Princess
Usha became lost and quiet. She kept on thinking about her future mate day and night. It lost her hunger and she seemed to be very weak and gloomy. When her mother showed her to a physician, he said, that this is happening due to exhaustion.

As per Goddess Parvati's statement, on the twelfth night of the waxing side of Vesak month, Princess Usha dreamt of a Prince with lotus eyes and with very healthy arms. When the Princess Usha awakened from the dream, she felt very unhappy with the Prince not being there. She talked about her dream to her beloved friend Rama, Who was the daughter of the general Kumbhbhand.

Help Of Rama And Chitralekha

Rama was born from the skillful nymph Chitralekha, who was an expert and genius in picture art. Princess Usha asked Rama to call nymph Chitralekha. So Usha and Rama both worshipped Chitralekha and pleased her.

Chitralekha dialect, "I am proficient in picture art and also have knowledge of all the illustrious people of the world. Since you do not know anything about the total lineage of the man who has come in your dream. So I will take a picture of all the illustrious people of the world so you can easily figure out the man who appeared in your dream. "

After seven days, when Chitralekha came to princess Usha, She had brought pictures of all eminent persons like Gods, President, Gandharva, Men, Demon etc. Given those pictures, Princess Usha's eyes stayed on a picture. She said to Chiitralekha, This portrait is similar to that lotus-eyed man who had appeared in her dream. So please give me the introduction of this man at any cost.

Then nymph Chitralekha quoted,' This is the portrait of Anirudh, He is the Son of great Pradumna and grandson of Lord Krishna. They live in the city of Dwarka, it is located in the westernmost of Aryavarat

Princess  Usha urged, "O Chitralekha" Please go to Dwarka soon and get Prince Anirudh to Shonitpur. "After a lot of requests from Usha, Chitralekha moved to get Prince Anirudh from Dwarka.

Guidance Of Sage Narad

After reaching Dwarka, Chitralekha began to consider, how she would get Prince Anirudh to Shonitpur. She saw Sage Narad there while thinking. She narrated the whole story of her arrival to Dwarka to Sage Narad

Sage Narad taught The Tamsi Vidya to Chitralekha and told her, that with the help of this vidya you won't be seen by anyone and you will get Prince Anirudh easily to Shonitpur. With the effect of Tamsi Vidya, nymph Chitralekha easily reached to Anirudh's Palace. In the palace, Chitralekha saw him very gloomy and sad.

Chitralekha came to know from her divine vision that Anirudh is also thinking about the same dream that Usha had seen. Chitralekha went to Anirudh and told him the entire story. She explained. Goddess Parvati has blessed  Usha that the man who will appear in her dream would become her husband. Chitralekha told to  Anirudh that she has come here to get him to Shonitpur. Anirudh was gladly ready to go with her.

Secret Marriage Of Anirudh & Usha

Chitralekha immediately reached to Shonitpur with prince Anirudh. Usha became very happy to see him. Prince Anirudh also pleased to see her. Then they both talked about their dream. As per destiny, They both got married. Then Usha hid Anirudh in her Palace.

War Between Banasur And Anirudh

It was not hidden from the detectives of Banasur, They told about Anirudh to Demon Banasur. In order to make Prince Anirudh captive, Banasur sent his army, and the entire army was killed by Anirudh only. Thereafter, Demon Banasura himself came for war with Anirudh and after a fierce war with him, he tied Anirudh in Nagpash and made him captive.

When Anirudh was tied up in Nagpash, He worshipped Goddess Durga by heart, As a result, Goddess Durga appeared in front of Anirudh and freed him from Nagpash. She said to Anirudh, soon Lord Krishna, would come here to liberate you.

Information Of Sage Narad

On the other hand, when Anirudh was not found in Dwarka, king Ugrasen sent his messengers in all directions, but by the evening all the messengers returned and Anirudh was not found. Ugrasen, Krishna and the people of Dwarka got frightened.

Suddenly Sage Narad arrived there playing with the harp. Seeing Narad, everyone's heart was filled with joy. Sage Narad narrated the entire account of Anirudh's abduction. He told to Lord Krishna how, After the horrible war, Demon Banasur had tied Anirudh in Nagpash.

Sage Narad urged Lord Krishna to defeat Banasur, including his army, and liberate Anirudh. Lord Krishna and Balram got angry and they compelled King Ugrasen to order them to attack Banasur

Narad Ji said Dwarka is 11000 yojan far away from Shonitpur. So Lord Krishna called his vehicle Garuda and departed to Shonitpur with his brother Balram and Son Pradyumna.
