Sudarshan Chakra

A mythological disc used as a missile by Lord Vishnu, Sudarshan Chakra, is an effectual weapon which is held by him on his index finger. The weapon moves at the speed of mind and chases its goal and ends it and comes back to the Lord. 

This chakra has 108 bent edges. It has  12 spokes which distinguish 12 months of the year. These spokes connect their middle and edges. It has 6 navels consisting of 2 eras. The spokes of this chakra are distinguished by Lord Indra, Marutgan, Yaksha, all sages, and all zodiac signs and by the power of all Gods. This Chakra produces terrible poison and fire and destroys the enemy.

The Story Behind Sudarshan Chakra

Once upon a time, between the war of Gods and Demons, God's were being defeated by the Demons. therefore they went in the shelter Lord Vishnu for their protection. Lord Vishnu said, that demons could not die from his weapons and he needs a special weapon to slaughter them. Then Lord Vishnu went to Mount Kailash to Mahadev to solve this problem. In Kailash, Lord Vishnu saw that Mahadev was absorbed in deep austerity.

Lord Vishnu decided to do penance of Lord Shiva. He used to offer 1000 lotus flowers per day on Shivling. Lord Vishnu had been doing this act since 1000 years. After 1000 years Lord Shiva disappeared one lotus flower to take his test. 

Lord Vishnu had offered 999 lotus flowers on Shivling, but he was not getting one lotus flower. Lord Vishnu was In dilemma, then he thought that he is called Kamalnayan.

 So he offered his one eye on Shivling. Seeing this, Lord Shiva became very happy and appeared in front of him. Lord Shiva asked Lord Vishnu to seek a blessing.  

Lord Vishnu replied he needs an effectual weapon for the goodness of the world and the destruction of the demons. Then Lord Shiva offered him an infallible weapon, The Sudershan Chakra. This chakra was created by Lord Vishvakarma (The craftsman of deities). He had created this Chakra by the part of Lord Sun to maintain the energy level of Sun. 

After getting the Chakra Lord Vishnu killed all the demons and from then Sudarshan Chakra is the symbol of Lord Vishnu and belongs to him only. In the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, only Lord Krishna had used Sudarshan Chakra as he is known as the compleat incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

The place where Lord Vishnu had performed the austerity of Lord Shiva is known as Kamleshwar temple which is located in Srinagar, district of Gadwal, India.
